Product Description

The Rocky Mounts Tandem Mount R4  for two seater bikes allows the front wheel to be removed and mounted onto the fork mount from the ground! Once the fork is clamped in, lift the rear wheel onto the tray, and voila! This way you will only have to lift half the bike's weight at one time!  Switching to a single bike could not be easier. Simply turn a wing nut and the slide the tray forward, it stows away cleanly and will now accommodate your other bikes.

• Simple push button design and pivoting axle allow for easy one person loading.
• Internal bearings and headset technology make for silky smooth movement.
• Telescopic design allows for tandem, single bikes and most recumbent bikes.
• Fits Thule standard rectangle and Yakima RoundBars load bars.
• Compatible with 35 to 78 inch wheelbases.
• Built with the strongest non-corrosive, ovalized, heat treated 6061 aluminum.
• 9mm quick release holds the fork to the rack.
• 24 - 36 inch crossbar spread required.
• Sleek silver anodized finish.

Fit Note
On some vehicle rack set-ups, the front chainring of your Tandem can hit the window or doorframe while loading the tandem. A Rocky Mounts Offset Bracket spaces the Tandem Mount further outboard on the bar (by up to 9 inches) on the crossbar. This may be required to use the pivoting function of the Tandem Mount R4. If you have enough crossbar available sticking past the tower (you need 5 inches), you will most likely not need it. If you mount the R4 inside the towers, you probably will.

Tandem Mount R4 FAQs
Why is it so much cooler and less expensive than everybody else's?
Rocky Mounts is all about supplying good products at affordable prices, so it just goes with their whole program.

Do I need the Offset Bracket?
On some vehicles, the front chainring can hit the door or window of the car. The Offset Bracket allows the Tandem Mount to be positioned a little farther out for adequate clearance. There are too many variables between car, tandem and rack set-up to have a master list. If you have 5 inch of crossbar extending past your tower, you probably do not need it.

Is my car to tall?
Rocky Mount's pivoting axle is the lowest of the major brands, and your tandem wheelbase if fixed. Measure your from the end of the back tire to the fork dropouts. This distance must be at least 8" taller than the top of your crossbar for you to load the tandem on the ground. If not, The R4 will still work, but you will need to lift the bike on at one time.

Does it lock?
No, for technical reasons, Rocky Mount's Locking Quick Release does not work properly on the R4, it comes with an oversized 9mm QR, and you must use a cable lock.

Does it make noise?
No. The R4 is the only tandem mount that incorporates oval tubing, so it's quiter.

Why can't you just use a Pitchfork or Noose with a really long tray?
The front quick release must be elevated. If not, the front bottom bracket of the Tandem will hit the tray. Also, Tandem Mounts must be constructed more burly than their half bike cohorts.
