SL/SLX - What's the difference? The SL will carry a skinny road tire and up to a 2.35" mountain bike tire. The SLX will carry the skinny road tire as well, and up to a 3.0" mountain bike tire. The ratchet strap on the SLX is 3" longer and can contact the roof of the car while you are closing it if there is a skinny road tire in the tray. It will still work, but the strap end of the strap can drag across the roof. Our recommendation: Unless you ride anything over a 2.35" tire, get the SL. If you do get a larger diameter tire ( these are mostly downhill bikes) down the road, you can purchase the SLX wheelstrap later. The tire will ride higher in the tray, but will still work fine.
